When it came to films, Gene Siskel would accept nothing less than excellence and The Gene Siskel Film Center keeps that discerning spirit alive by providing a place to review the best of current work in the world of film.
The Film Center, part of the Art Institute of Chicago, is really two theaters, one with two-hundred seats, the other with sixty-four. Both are equipped with state-of-the-art projection facilities and, as one critic put it, sinfully cushy chairs with cup holders and clear sight lines. The Film Center offers a variety of movies old and new, foreign and domestic, classic and independent. Its goal is to educate both the student of film and the lay person with some interest in movies about the art of the cinema. Nearly 80,000 people a year pass through the center’s doors to participate in many of the educational and cultural activities of interest to all moviegoers. You can see a movie 7 days a week and take part in one of over 100 activities and programs every month. |
