Steppenwolf has been creating memorable productions since 1976 when it opened in a garage on Halsted Street. In those early years, co-founder Gary Sinise would steal cleaning equipment and bathroom necessities to stock the fledgling theatre. Now, Steppenwolf can easily afford its own paper towels, because people come from around the world to see the work of the company’s current ensemble of 35 artists. This big, gray box-shaped auditorium is beautiful in its simplicity from the outside. You will enjoy performances in the intimate Yondorf Hall, or on the large modern stage of the Downstairs Theatre.

You can get a “backstage” tour here and can rent out space here for your own celebratory event! Just call Judith Simons, Steppenwolf’s Director of Special Events at 312.654.5617.
