Big Picture: A New View of Painting in Chicago
October 20, 2007 through August 3, 2008
Discover Chicago’s artistic personality in this fresh, provocative look at painting in the Windy City. Big Picture explores the relationship between Chicago’s art and its landscape; our often-forgotten contributions to American abstraction; and the city’s enduring interest in the figure. To give visitors rare access to the art and its creators, several works are displayed to reveal their backs.
Schaumburg: From Cornfield to Woodfield
From: December 24 2007 To: August 31 2008
August 18, 2007 through August 31, 2008
Schaumburg is one of the Chicago area's most prominent suburbs and a regional force in its own right. Divided into four sections, this exhibition explores how Schaumburg became the community it is today. The first section focuses on the German immigrant farmers who settled the area in the 1840s; the second looks at the transformation from farmland to suburbia in the decades following World War II; the third examines how the completion of the Northwest Tollway triggered rapid growth; and the last reveals plans for the future of Schaumburg.
