Old Town School of Folk Music
In 1957, folk musician Win Stracke opened a small school teaching folk music in Old Town. Today, the school has moved further North and expanded into not only an internationally known school, but also a performance venue that features many well-known folk performers. Students can learn a variety of ethnic dance and music styles. Sign up to learn how to play blues harmonica, Irish ballad singing, African drumming and much more. There is also a retail store where you can find dozens of books and tapes. |

This is one of Chicago's oldest and most distinguished concert series, the University of Chicago Presents' Classic Concert Series (formerly the Chamber Music Series) was founded in 1943 with the goal of bringing to Chicago World-Renowned Artists for concerts and educational programs that would attract audiences from all parts of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. |
