General Info
The Goodman is a name synonymous with world class theatre, is the kind of place where familiar faces show up on stage, and is where memorable performances will light up your night. Many of the actors you see in films, on television and on Broadway have had their start on the Goodman stage. Many have not only launched but have sustained a career in the City. The Goodman got started in 1925 at the Art Institute of Chicago, when the parents of writer Kenneth Sawyer Goodman, gave $350,000 to begin a drama school when he passed away. More than 80 years later, the Goodman was rebuilt at 170 North Dearborn, the old site of the Selwyn and Harris Theatres, in the area of town known as the Loop Theatre District. The facades of both venues were preserved to keep the wonderful Greek statues of the Gods and Goddesses of Drama standing for all to see.

The Long Red Road February-13 - March-21
events_01142010170918.jpgThe Long Red Road is a raw and provocative new play about how one person's anguish can tear a family apart. Sam attempts to drink away his past and exorcise his demons on an Indian reservation in South Dakota, where he has been trying to forget his role in a tragic accident with his family. When a visitor from his past arrives on the reservation, Sam is forced to face his guilt and take a harrowing look at the man he has become
A True History of the Johnstown Flood March-13 - April-18
events_03012010115654.jpgThe devastating Johnstown Flood of 1889 serves as the backdrop for this provocative world premiere by Rebecca Gilman. Baxter Theatre Troupe—comprised of siblings James, Richard and Fanny—has been summoned to perform at an exclusive resort next to a beautiful man-made lake in the Pennsylvania mountains. Although the troupe's repertoire consists of the romantic trifles typical of the era, James envisions a different kind of play, exposing the true struggles of common people. When a violent rainstorm compromises the lake's shoddily constructed dam, the resulting disaster lays bare the tragic inequities of the rigid class system—and paves the way for a seismic change in both theater and society.
Hephaestus: A Greek Mythology Circus Tale April-15 - May-23
According to Greek Myth, Hephaestus was born weak, disfigured and crippled. Displeased by the sight of her son, Hera cast Hephaestus from the heavens, and he fell for an entire day before landing in the sea. On Earth, Hephaestus became a great artist, fashioning metal into beautiful works of art. Combining elements of circus, theatre, live music and dance, Hephaestus: A Greek Mythology Circus Tale follows the God of the Forge as he encounters sea nymphs, creates men out of steel and falls in love with the most beautiful goddess of all.

The Good Negro May-01 - June-06
events_03012010115813.jpgThis gripping new play rips through the pages of history to uncover the human story at the heart of the 1960s American Civil Rights Movement. Tensions build in the increasingly hostile South as a trio of emerging black leaders attempts to conquer their individual demons amid death threats from the Ku Klux Klan and wire taps by the FBI. Through personal and intimate stories inspired by the political upheavals of the era, The Good Negro examines the human frailties behind the historic headlines
