The Signature Room at the 95th on North Michigan Avenue is the restaurant Chicago looks up to. An elevator whisks you to the 95th floor of the John Hancock Center and as you step into the Signature Room there is the murmur of voices; American accents mingling with those from France and Germany, Italy, Scandinavia and Asia; diners from the four corners of the globe have come to experience this gem of a restaurant.
The walk to your table is a dazzling visual experience, the restaurant’s windows allowing you a breathtaking view of a shimmering Chicago that stretches below. There are lunch, brunch, dinner and gourmet menus that will delight any palate. We recommend you try the crispy filet of salmon in a lemon caper sauce or the sautéed breast of chicken with pearl onions and grilled Portobello mushrooms - two Signature Room dinner specialties. And don’t pass up the Tiramisu Dessert Martini - Tuaca vanilla liqueur, Amarula cream liqueur, DiSaronno and cream topped with chocolate shavings. Reading those words is almost as delightful as sipping the drink.
There’s also the buffet. The day we tried it, we started with an excellent potato salad, moved to a butternut squash, luxuriated over a meat loaf in rich gravy, snuggled against a medley of fresh vegetables that nestled against salmon done to perfection. Oh, and the creamy golden brown sweet potatoes – to die for. Treat yourself. Order the dark chocolate mousse cake, then drift a slice through the raspberry coulis that weaves around it and know the true meaning of the word “sinful.”
The Signature room features live jazz Friday through Sunday in the dining rooms and Sunday through Thursday in the lounge.
