One of Chicago's 2007 AAA Five Diamond - Rated Restaurants
Haute cuisine doesn't begin to describe the epicurean mastery achieved by multi-award winning chefs Rick Tramonto and Gale Gand at Tru. Serious diners from Chicago and elsewhere bow in respectful agreement to Tru's unique juxtaposition of playful presentations and sensual, perfectly prepared selections. And though periodically lighthearted in those presentations, Tru is a restaurant never to be taken lightly. Not only are patrons surrounded by striking art, they are also meant to experience and duly appreciate the labors of culinary artistry at its finest.

General Info
Stunning. Simply stunning. The bar area is accentuated by a striking cobalt sculpture of a female torso, with the private dining salons and main dining area complimented with Riedel stemware, luxuriant linen, and Andy Warhol paintings. This is lavish, in the Vogue tradition of elegant society enjoying artful finery and food. Fare is served on a dramatic array of non-traditional surfaces crafted by local and international artisans. Versace china cups of cappuccino soups are fun…just don't break them.

Tramonto and Gand's creations dazzle. American Contemporary and French cuisine defines Tru's board of fare, with entrées ranging from prosciutto and fontina stuffed veal loin with white truffle foam to butter-poached Maine lobster. Whimsical trios of fish tartares are served over a fishbowl holding a live beta, accompanied by a mirror holding lotus, beet, carrot, potato and taro chips. Caviar arrives playfully placed on a glass staircase. Rare cheeses abound here and for dessert, Chef Gand sparkles with pickled white nectarine soup with blueberries and warm chocolate tart with toasted almond milk sherbet and strawberry balsamic butter.

Champagne is a specialty at the full bar, and there are truly lovely wine offerings - 1300 bottles in wine cellar. Incidentally, Tru won the Wine Spectator Grand Award in 2004 (the highest rating). Yet for all the richness and focus on fresh, flavorful ingredients, Tru is equally conscious and creative in affording healthy options to weight watching patrons and those who have special dietary needs.

Tru is indeed blessed by exceptional service that is effortlessly executed, from seating to navigating through courses to selecting the perfect dessert. A private dining room is available afternoons and evenings Monday through Saturday, and the main dining room can be reserved for private events afternoons daily, and Sunday evenings. Don't expect to be seated without a reservation (call at least a week in advance, 3 to 4 weeks for busy holiday seasons) and finally - remember to turn the cell phone off before entering.

Please note: For multi-course meals, give yourself three to four hours

The Perfect Choice For: Elegant, romantic dinners, special occasions, pre-opera or theatre evenings
