Walking into Buca di Beppo feels like walking into a time-warp: a combination of 1950's rec room and Italian immigrant cultural shrine. There are year-round Christmas lights (yes, the big colored bulbs) strewn about the rooms and hallways. The wood-paneled walls are adorned with an abundance of humorous artifacts: silly (and sometimes provocative) black and white photos (a beauty queen spaghetti-eating contest / nuns duking it out in bumper cars) mesh with scarves of Italian soccer teams, little league trophies, classic movie posters of Sophia Loren, and photos of every single Italian crooner who ever made a record.
The warm, kitschy, family-style environment is also reflected in its approach to casual Italian dining: their salads, pastas, pizzas, and entrees are all served “family-style” - one big plate for everyone to share. Calling their portions generous is an understatement: Buca “smalls” can comfortably feed 2-4 people, while Buca “large” dishes can feed 4 - 6 very hungry people. Do not forget to bring friends and a large appetite.
Every visit to Buca di Beppo begins with a tour through the spacious kitchen, meeting chefs and watching the creation of their homemade marinara sauces, pizza dough. Meatballs transform into classic Italian dishes. Buca even features a “kitchen table” - a booth in the middle of the kitchen for customers to enjoy their full meal “behind the scenes.”
Buca di Beppo can accommodate parties between 12 and 100 people. For parties of 12 to 18 people, Buca has “The Pope room” complete with a rotating pope head as the centerpiece of a large lazy susan....mangia!
Buca di Beppo’s Rush and Grand location, open since 2003, is one of five Chicagoland locations and 97 national Buca di Beppo’s.
The Perfect Choice For: Birthdays, after-work outings, pre-high school dances, post-shopping chow-downs and sharing large meals with friends and family
