We know that you are supposed to talk about the entrees in a restaurant review before you talk about dessert.  But at Hugo’s, that Muddy Bottom Pie is a "knock your socks" ending to an evening of exquisite dinning. Go ahead and hurt yourself.

What an evening of dinning you will find in this restaurant famous for its seafood! There are the frog’s legs fresh from Indonesia sautéed in butter and garlic with just a touch of lemon added – a specialty of the house. You can start your meal with a crab cakes appetizer - two of them - pan seared and then finished in an oven, each weighing at least a half-pound, each moist and mouthwatering. You may want to try the extra large shrimp; offering a rich luxuriant taste after marinating in olive oil, garlic and seasonings before being grilled. Two other wonderful choices: the Chilean sea bass, covered with swirls of cantaloupe relish or the chunky sautéed filet of monkfish with hints of smoked bacon and apple to complete its taste.

You cannot take your eyes off of it. It’s a pie you tell yourself. It’s only a pie – be calm. But it is huge; this delight called a Muddy Bottom Pie. As the waitress slices through the Oreo cookie crust, pushing the silver spatula deeper through the chocolate and vanilla ice cream, through the chocolate chips, through the miniature marshmallows, you feel your self-control slipping away. The dark inviting slice is now on the spatula, and now the waitress gently teases it off onto your plate. You take a bite. You wonder if you will ever be able to speak of your feelings to decent people.
