This is THE place for steak and celebrities in Chicago. As a matter of fact, Sun-Times gossip columnist Michael Sneed seems to write her column from the restaurant at least once per week. Nicholas Cage has dined here, so has Liz Taylor, Jay Leno and Gary Sinise. Jack Nicholson, during a layover at O’Hare, ordered a steak sandwich from Gibson’s and when it was delivered he was waiting for it in a private room at the airport with his own personal napkin tucked into his shirt!
Gibson’s has been in the same space for twenty-years – the one that housed the hot spot "Sweetwater" in the 1980s and the famous Mr. Kelly’s before that. Peaches runs the cigar counter and recommends diners come early and check out all the pictures of the stars but. Peaches adds with wise diplomacy, "Everyone’s a star when you walk into Gibson’s." You can’t go wrong with the sliced sirloin with red wine sauce. It’s mouthwatering. If you order the Australian lobster tail, you will taste the best in the world. The baby back ribs are number one with diners along the Gold Coast.
The wine List offers 40 different types and the two most favored deserts - carrot cake and turtle pie - are made daily from scratch. You will be served by a gracious staff and leave happy and content. It’s easy to understand why Gibson’s is known as a "standing room only" place. |
